Humboldt County’s Joint Information Center sent out a press release this afternoon clarifying how Gov. Gavin Newsom’s modified stay-at-home order changes things here in Humboldt. (Spoiler alert: not much.)

The modified order allows some real estate work to resume, bicycle shops to re-open and faith based social services to resume, all as “essential” activities. It also clarifies what types of outdoor recreation are allowable, while still practicing social distancing with everyone who is not a member of your household.

Check out the full press release below.

State Education Department has oversight responsibility for school district
provision of pupil transportation services to resident pupils attending public
and nonpublic schools. Approximately 2.3 million pupils, or ten percent of
the nation’s pupils, are transported to school each day. One-third of these students are transported on district owned buses, one-third ride contracted buses, and one-third of our students utilize public transportation. The 2016-17 statewide
cost of services is approximately $2.8 billion with state aid of $1.7 billion.
The Department processes 5,000 contracts and extensions annually
for the delivery of services by private contractors to over 480 school districts.

The Department also has jurisdiction over the qualifications for hiring school
bus drivers, monitors and attendants for 50,000 buses statewide.  It has established in regulation specific
safety training requirements which help insure safe transportation for all pupils.
The Department administers the School Bus Driver Safety Training Program

Transportation Services for Seniors Living at Home

Description

Transportation is crucial to ensure access to essential services such as medical care and grocery shopping. The availability of adequate transportation enables older persons to live independently in their communities, helps to prevent isolation and the possible need for long-term care placement. Many older people, who do not drive, must rely on family and friends to provide much of the transportation. But for others, it is necessary to find community resources to provide transportation, as this vital support service may be their only connection to the outside world.

Bicycle Parking & Security

Campus Bicycle Parking

Bicycles may park only in designated parking areas. With so many bicycles on campus, parking regulations are strictly enforced. Illegally parked bicycles, those that are not parked at designated bicycle racks, create problems and inconvenience for people, damage property, and generally constitute a hazard. If you do not park your bicycle in a designated bicycle rack, it may be impounded and you will be charged a fine.

Some residence halls allow students to store bikes in their assigned room. Check with your RA for further information. Staff and faculty members may be able to park their bicycles in their office or other assigned workspace with the permission of their department chairperson. Bicycle lockers are also available for rent in four campus locations. Contact the Transportation Services for information on fees and availability.
