Pennsylvania car dealers get limited opening for sales during coronavirus restrictions

People who have been shut out the past month from buying a car will be able to now that Gov. Tom Wolf has lifted some restrictions on dealerships.

“We’ve got permission for online sales, but the showroom still will be locked down. We’re not allowed to have people coming in (the showroom) and kicking the tires,” said Jeff Smail, general manager of the family-owned Smail Automotive Group on Route 30, east of Greensburg. Showroom visits are by appointment only, Smail noted.

Wolf signed an order Monday permitting the electronic notarization of documents needed for closing real estate property sales and for buying a vehicle. Dealerships had been closed for sales since mid-March, when the governor ordered all non-life-sustaining businesses to shut down, making Pennsylvania one of three states to clamp down

Two killed, four others injured in two-vehicle crash on I-80 near Joslin

JOSLIN, Ill. (KWQC) – Two people were killed and four others were injured Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash near Joslin.

The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. on Interstate 88 westbound, the Illinois State Police said in a media release.

According to state police, the preliminary investigation indicates that a 2006 Black Jeep Liberty was driving eastbound on I-88 when, for an unknown reason, it veered off the roadway, traveled through the center median and overturned.

The jeep struck a westbound 2017 White Ford Edge head-on and came to a rest on its roof in the westbound lanes of traffic, according to state police.

The Ford came to a stop facing eastbound in the westbound lanes of traffic.

The driver of the Jeep, Songolo Lolonga, 38, of Rock Island, and passenger Wilonja M. Mashimango, 27, also of Rock Island, were killed in the crash.

Juveniles arrested for vehicle theft in Barstow

BARSTOW, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A couple of Barstow juveniles were arrested for vehicle theft after attempting to run from officers, officials said.

At about noon on Thursday, March 26, 2020, deputies from the Barstow Police Department observed a male juvenile run out of the QMart store on May Avenue with a bottle of liquor.

When the officers attempted to stop him he fled. The officers eventually caught the male and arrested him, officials said.

According to a news release, “they confirmed that the male stole the liquor and returned it to the store. The male was issued a citation for the theft and released to his parent.”

At 3:50 pm Barstow Police Dispatch Center received a report of a stolen vehicle. The victim reported that she left her Ford Focus running for a few minutes as she went into her home and in that time someone stole it.

Police: Ship Bottom Beach Patrol vehicle hits two Pennsylvania girls; driver charged with reckless driving

A Ship Bottom Beach Patrol vehicle struck a pair of teenage girls from Pennsylvania who were laying on the New Jersey beach a little after 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, local authorities said on Facebook. The incident occurred at the 26th Street Beach of the Ocean County town, which is located on Long Beach Island.

The girls’ names were not provided, but Ship Bottom police said that the victims were a 14-year-old female from Fleetwood, Berks County and a 15-year-old female from Leestwood. The two girls were taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune City, Monmouth County where they were treated and eventually released from the hospital.

The driver of the vehicle, 22-year-old John Purdon of Barnegat, Ocean County, was charged with reckless driving pending a court date.

The town also issued a statement on its Facebook page on Saturday to send well wishes to the two female victims
