Are masks becoming political statements?

SALT LAKE CITY — Earlier this week, the bicycle I ride for exercise each day after the daily grind in my basement office needed a minor repair.

A sign on the door of the shop told me to wait outside. Only 10 people were allowed inside at a time. After a while, a young woman opened the door and invited me in.

She was not wearing a mask. Neither was anyone inside. I did, however, sense a conscious effort by myself and others to keep at a distance from each other.

So, are we ready for the next phase in this pandemic — the “stabilization phase” the governor wants to usher in with the month of May? Are we ready, in other words, for restaurants, hair salons and other businesses that naturally result in close personal contact to reopen under strict guidelines?

One rule for this new phase is to

Overview

Vehicle detection using these machine learning and computer vision techniques.

  • Linear SVM
  • HOG(Histogram of Oriented Gradients) feature extraction
  • Color space conversion
  • Space binning
  • Histogram of color extraction
  • Sliding Window

Note

First, you need to get training data(cars and not-cars). You can get car images from GTI vehicle image database, KITTI vision benchmark). And over 1500 images per each is good for this project.

German Universities To Offer Bicycling Traffic Degree Program

German universities are to start teaching the hitherto neglected subject of bicycling traffic. Seven institutions have received funding from the national government to appoint professors in the subject, with the first students expected to sign up for Masters courses next year.

“Cycling must be placed on an equal footing with other means of transport,” said a statement from the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) which is endowing the chairs with seed funding of 8.3 million.

“We are providing cyclists with allies who, in the future, can apply their know-how in a focused manner on the ground and in the cities, towns, and local communities,” continued the BMVI statement.

Among the institutions introducing the course in 2021 is

A civil engineering professor at The University of Texas at Arlington is leading an interdisciplinary project to develop a comprehensive vision of what the Texas transportation system should look like in 25 years.

The two-year, $298,503 project, funded by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), includes faculty members from UTA’s College of Engineering and School of Social Work.

“With this project, we believe Texas will be better equipped to proactively prepare for emerging technologies and plan for a preferred vision of the future, rather than just react to new technologies and disrupted markets,” said Steve Mattingly, professor of civil engineering. “We want to identify a vision for the future that the public values

Curb Weight vs Gross Vehicle Weight

Many people become confused by the terms “curb weight” and “gross vehicle weight.” It may seem contradictory that your vehicle could have two separate weights at the same time. Fortunately, however, there is an easy explanation for the difference between these two types of measuring the weight of your vehicle. It’s important to keep these things in mind, particularly if the difference between these weights places your car in a different weight class or can present a difficulty with crossing overbridges, for instance.

Curb Weight

The curb weight of your vehicle is the weight of the car with all of the standard equipment and amenities, but without any passengers, cargo or any other separately loaded items in it. Thus, the curb weight is the amount that the vehicle weighs when it’s resting on the curb and not in use. This is generally the standard weight that the manufacturer

Tel Aviv to stop operating bicycle rental service – Israel News

Tel Aviv announced it is terminating its contract with Tel-O-Fun bicycle rental service in August due to the increasing popularity of electric bikes and scooters.

Tel Aviv Municipality data shows that the number of people subscribed to the Tel-O-Fun service has gradually declined in the past several months, from 2,035 subscribers in November 2019 to 1,625 in March 2020.

Israel’s single-use coalition will serve Trump and protect BibiHaaretz

In addition, the number of times subscribers used the service plunged from 34,000 in November to 12,000 in March.

The municipality said that the lack of demand led to the early termination of its contract with Tel-O-Fun – instead of ending the contract in January 2021 as slated, it will be terminated in August of this year.

The municipality said that it is examining operating an electric bike service that

Ford announces launch of largest electric vehicle charging network in the US

Unlike Tesla, though, Ford didn’t build this charging network on its own. Working with EV charging companies Greenlots and Electrify America, Ford has created what it calls the FordPass Charging Network. When needed, users will be directed to one of the network’s chargers using an app or in the vehicle’s central touch screen.

Next year, Ford will begin selling an electric crossover SUV with styling based on the Ford Mustang. It’s the first vehicle Ford has ever offered that was designed, from the outset, as an electric vehicle. That vehicle has not been unveiled yet. An electric version of the Ford F-150 pickup is also being developed.

The FordPass network will include more than 12,000 charging stations with a total of 35,000 plugs in the United States and some parts of Canada. Tesla has 4,375 public charging stations with about 15,000 plugs in the United States, according to the Department
